FAQ

Here you’ll find frequently asked questions about my products, my policies and general care instructions to keep your mud & ink pieces in the best condition.

HOW ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE?

All of my mud & ink pieces are illustrated freehand or thrown in my small town studio in Larkspur, CO. I am the sole maker of all my pieces. I usually create pieces one by one or in small quantities. When working with mud there will always be slight variations of size, shape or color that may occur as part of the process. This makes each piece truly one-of-a-kind. I post on my instagram page when new mud & ink work is available and how/where to purchase.

ARE YOUR POTTERY PIECES DISHWASHER AND MICROWAVE SAFE?

Yes, your handmade pottery has been fired to 2,200º Fahrenheit. There is not much your handmade pottery can’t handle! It is made of stone and glass, so it can break if dropped on a hard surface, but it is amazingly tough. This pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe. Not recommended for stove top use. While the pottery is dishwasher safe, I recommend occasionally hand washing to keep your pieces in the best condition possible and to use nonabrasive detergents and a cloths when washing. When microwaving remove pieces with care, as they will be hot and will remain hot for a while. Gradual heating and cooling is recommended to avoid thermal shock. (do not place cold or freezing ceramics into a microwave or hot oven).

SCRATCHBOARD CARE

The surface of the drawing has been sprayed with a UV-protecting varnish. The sealer provides enough protection that the work does not need to be framed under glass. However, the surface can still be damaged if not handled properly; avoid touching the surface of the board. Scratchboard should be treated in the same manner as any other original artwork, hang it out of direct/bright sunlight or fluorescent light and avoid high heat and humidity. If dust collects on the board, use a soft paintbrush or non-abrasive very soft cloth to lightly clean it.

Tip - In the event that this should happen you may want to try spraying the surface lightly with a Kamar or Claybord® varnish (which can be found at your local art store) and in most cases this will dissolve the fingerprint or oil stain.

Do not rub the stain, even with a soft cloth, as this will only worsen the mark.

These are unframed artworks. I am always happy to frame a piece on request at an additional cost.

Tips for framing scratchboard art - If a floater frame is ideal, make sure to put it in a frame the same size as the board so that the artwork is not able to shift around in the frame, which can cause damage to the edges. I like to glue my boards to a canvas frame when framing in a floater frame. Scratchboards framed under glass must have a mat or spacers to keep the glass from touching the board.

Before a scratchboard is framed, care should be taken not to touch the surface of the board. Even though my illustrations are sprayed with a protective coating, the oils from your skin can still leave a stain.

PEN & INK

Depending on the type surface the illustration is on, framing may be desirable. For wider canvas pieces a frame is not necessary, however a floating frame is ideal, where thinner canvas or paper illustrations are best framed with a mat under glass. All illustrations are sprayed with a UV protectant.
